As part of ANU 80th anniversary celebrations, the ANU College of Law, Governance and Policy will host a screening of Dark Waters, a compelling 2019 legal thriller on 15 August from 12.30 to 2.40pm. The film, directed by Todd Haynes, is based on the true story of attorney Robert Bilott’s fight to expose a decades-long cover-up of toxic chemical contamination by DuPont. At its heart, the film explores questions of accountability, institutional responsibility and the pursuit of justice when environmental, public health and commercial interests intersect. This screening invites audiences to reflect on the real-world roles of legal systems, governance structures and policy frameworks in shaping environmental protection and public health outcomes. Join us to explore how these systems can be strengthened to deliver fairer, safer and more accountable outcomes for communities.
