JuE Wong

BA (Hons) 1987

Business leader, innovator, advocate for women in business and volunteer, JuE Wong has lived by the maxim of never taking the easy option.

Originally from Singapore, JuE chose to do her undergraduate studies at ANU in Canberra, away from her friends and family. She wanted the challenge of establishing herself in a new community and hoped the move would help her focus on her studies, mature as a person and become self-sufficient.

After graduating in 1987, JuE returned to Singapore intending to join the diplomatic corps, only to discover that a degree from a local university was required. Taking it in her stride, she joined Cargill Commodities as a trading manager. Senior roles later took her to London, Geneva, Bangkok and Hong Kong before she began a new chapter in the beauty industry.

As Chief Executive Officer of StriVectin, JuE built a reputation for helping emerging brands grow and established brands reach new markets. She went on to hold senior leadership roles with Elizabeth Arden, Moroccanoil and Olaplex. Today, she is Chief Executive Officer of Performance Beauty Group, working with a portfolio of beauty brands.

JuE’s achievements have been recognised throughout her career. She was nominated for The Wall Street Journal’s “Top 50 Women to Watch” in 2004 and was a finalist for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award in 2012. In 2014, ANU named her International Alumnus of the Year.

The unexpected loss of her husband of more than 20 years reshaped how JuE viewed her personal and professional life. Her volunteer work has included supporting heart disease prevention and opportunities for women in business. She is now Vice Chair of Cosmetic Executive Women (CEW) and a member of its audit committee. She also serves on the board of FireFly Robotics.
