The University has been hosting information and feedback sessions to support staff engagement in enterprise bargaining.

The University Integrity Office is taking shape, with Kathryn Rothwell joining as Manager and Eb Chomkul as Assessment Officer this week. From 18 August, a new Office of Integrity webpage and online intake form will provide a central entry point for complaints, concerns, and disclosures.

The Office will assess each submission that comes through the form, identify any immediate risks or support needs, and refer most matters to the appropriate ANU business unit for action, monitoring them through to closure. It will not replace existing complaints and support functions, and will only retain matters where there is a conflict of interest and the existing unit cannot act independently, or the matter falls within its remit which includes fraud, corruption, serious misconduct and public interest disclosures.

The Office will also act as an oversight and assurance function, identify recurring issues and emerging risks to help strengthen integrity across ANU.

The University has launched its Disability Action Plan (DAP) 2026–2028, reaffirming its commitment to building a more accessible, inclusive and equitable community. Guided by the social model of disability, the Plan prioritises practical actions to remove systemic, environmental and attitudinal barriers across all aspects of university life.

Developed in consultation with staff, students and stakeholders, the DAP sets out clear actions and accountability measures across six key focus areas, including leadership, inclusive education and employment, and digital and physical accessibility. Thinking about cycling to work, but not quite sure where to start? Cycle Smart is back for a second round. This 6-week program, starting Monday 24 August, helps staff ride to campus safely with guided rides to ANU.

Discounted hot drinks and free workshops are on offer where you’ll build skills, confidence and routine in a supportive environment.

Places are limited to 20 participants.

ANU is participating in the 2026 Student Experience Survey (SES). The SES is a national survey conducted by the Australian Government Department of Education as part of the Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching (QILT) program.

Please encourage your students to check their email and participate in the survey.

The survey period ends Sunday 30 August and eligible students have already received their survey invitation.

Since introducing monthly leave reminders in March 2025, we have been tracking balances in On Campus to encourage staff to take regular breaks and reduce their leave liability.

In July 2026, the University’s annual leave liability was $46.4m, an increase of $565,302 compared to June 2026 and $1.6m higher than it was at the same time last year.

The Restoring Biannual Graduation Ceremonies Working Group is seeking two academic or professional staff representatives to help ensure a broad range of college and school perspectives inform its work.

A scholarship changed Professor Myint Zan's life. Today, through the Myint Zan Scholarship, he is helping the next generation of ANU students pursue their passions, demonstrating how one act of support can create opportunities that come full circle. Supporting students in the Master of Asian and Pacific Studies, the scholarship helps recipients to focus on their studies, broaden their horizons and make the most of their ANU experience.

“Don’t come home married to a Taliban.” 

These were the words from a terrified mother to her daughter as she embarked on her first trip with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF or Doctors Without Borders) to Afghanistan. The 26-year-old Kamalini Lokuge boarded the plane, thinking she was having a break before choosing her medical specialty. Instead, that trip changed the direction of her life and those of many others. 

If you experience, witness or believe you have caused harm, support is available at ANU. The Harmful Behaviours Disclosure Tool provides a confidential way to access support or inform the University that something has happened. You can choose to make an identified disclosure to connect with a Staff Respect Consultant or make a de-identified disclosure to help the University identify patterns of behaviour and strengthen community responses.

On Thursday 20 August, the University’s core Finance System, ES Financials, and Finance Self Service will be unavailable while being updated from Thursday 20 August, 7pm to Monday 24 August, 8am.

During this time, access will be impacted for all users, including both administrative and finance self-service functions.
